XDL Kicks Off 2009 Season in Lake Havasu City
The XDL Sportbike Freestyle Championship will open its 2009 season in Lake Havasu City Saturday, April 4 as part of Spring Break Bike Week. The XDL Sportbike Freestyle Championship is the premier national stunt riding championship, now in its 4th season. Over the course of the season close to 100 professional and aspiring riders will compete for over $50,000 in prize money and the chance to win an Aprilia SXV 4.5. Competitions include Individual Freestyle, the Aprilia All-Star Challenge, Circle Challenge, Sickest Trick, Team Battle and Freestyle Burnout.
Lake Havasu City is a new addition to the XDL schedule, replacing the Phoenix stop from 2008. Stated series founder Randy Grube: "Although Phoenix was a good event, we see a lot more potential in a city like Lake Havasu City. Everyone here has been very helpful and kind, and the market is a good fit for us. And since we are running in conjunction with Spring Break Bike Week we expect this to become a destination event. ’'m really looking forward to the season opener."
The 2009 XDL season continues May 30 in Nashville, June 20 in Los Angeles and August 29 in Indianapolis. Two additional dates are tentatively scheduled but subject to TV negotiations. A revised schedule will be announced at the end of February.
Event info such as rider registration, media credential applications and an event schedule are on the event page.
A brief overview of the XDL competitions follows:
Individual Freestyle: Individual Freestyle is the battle for the national championship. All riders have 3 minutes to put on a routine and are then judged on overall performance, execution, difficulty and crashes. A rider receives one point for participating in qualifying, but has to score in the top 15 to advance to the main event. A bonus point is awarded to the highest qualifier. 45 point are awarded to the winner of Individual Freestyle, 42 points for second, 39 for third and so on, with 15th receiving 3 points.
Aprilia All-Star Challenge: This is our second national points championship event. Competitors must complete a challenging skills course in the shortest time, riding an Aprilia SXV 4.5. The points leader at the end of the season takes home an Aprilia SXV 4.5.
Sickest Trick: In this competition riders call out a trick they plan on performing and get two attempts at completing it. Judges decide the finalists and the crowd picks the winner.
Circle Challenge: In this ultimate test of skill, riders are challenged to be the first to complete 10 circles wheelies.
Thanks to all you beta testers out there for your input and your patience as we dial this thing in. I've been working on the site today and have tightened up a bunch of things in the forums and on friends pages. Also, the links at the bottom of the blog posts now work on pages that list mutliple posts. Lastly, the 'last activity date' has been fixed so that it will track when you were last here on the site.
I'm going to tweak the blogs a little bit more right now and then I hope to move my attention over to giving you guys some photo galleries!
Well everyone we made it to Phoenix... not-so-record time but perfect on the casualties which were of course zero. The Durango ran perfect and actually towed that loaded-down-hard trailer much better than i thought... and it's not even a HEMI, wtf. lol. Not one thing went wrong until we were stopping at the last exit before the house to get cat stuff at walmart. this is like 7:30am, and it's 60 degrees and the making of a bitchin day with nothing to do but unload the trailer, setup the utilities, take a nap. when THIS MOTHER FUCKER COP has to pull us over. i mean shit, we just went 900 some miles with zero issues and with 1 last filthy stinkin mile to go the popo has us pulled over for no plates on the trailer. I lied my ass off. he let us off with a verbal warning. <phew>
welcome to the desert.
naptime.
We got loaded safely and checked out of the house on Dahlia St.....got all the deposit, so thanks to all you drunks that didn't mess up the place too bad at all our parties!
