Fire Department Retiree Scratches One from Bucket List with Help From Law Tigers

By FTR on July 28, 2011 2:12 AM

On Thursday August 4th, with the help of the Law Tigers, America’s Motorcycle Injury Lawyers, retired Fire Department Fire Captain Bill Aviles will scratch off another item off his long bucket list by entering the Hoka Hey Motorcycle challenge.

After almost 32 years working for the Fire Department, Bill retired on October 31, 2010. During that time, he was assigned to the Operations Division and participated on the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team. He has been exposed and participated in many challenging activities and situations. None have been as interesting and physically challenging as the 2011 Hoka Hey Challenge.

The top prize is $250,000 along with a new 2012 Harley-Davidson CVO of their choice. Bill intends on donating 10% of any net winnings to children’s sporting organizations along with fire department family survivor’s funds.

This year’s event will begin in Phoenix, Arizona and travel through all forty-eight contiguous States and Canada to Nova Scotia. The route will travel 10,000+ miles. The route includes 13 checkpoints and will end in Sydney Nova Scotia. The Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge is open to riders of all Harley-Davidson® motorcycles.

All competitors will have a GPS tracking device installed on their motorcycles and must follow a predetermined route. Deviation from the route or traffic violations will result in disqualification.

The Law Tigers, America’s Motorcycle Injury Lawyers, have been a major sponsor for his endeavor. You can follow the Law Tigers at http://www.facebook.com/LawTigers or visit http:/www.lawtigers.com.

Donate to Ian Trettel's Recovery Fund For The Chance To Win a New Bike

On Saturday, March 5th, Rockstar Energy Suzuki rider Ian Trettel sustained a brain injury during practice at the AMA Supercross event in Daytona, Florida. He was quickly taken to Halifax Medical Center, where he was placed in a medically-induced coma. He has since been transferred to Shepherd Center in Atlanta to begin his rehabilitation and recovery process. Ian was admitted to Shepherd Center’s Acquired Brain Injury Unit for evaluation, care and observation. After doctors at Shepherd Center determined an appropriate treatment plan for Ian, he began a rehabilitation program under the guidance of a full team of medical and rehabilitation specialists. Shepherd is a world-renowned rehabilitation hospital, specializing in medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury and brain injury.

The family wants everyone to know that Ian is doing very well and that they continue to be extremely optimistic that he will make a full recovery. They are appreciative to Ian’s friends and friends of the family, and to the moto-cross community for its outpouring of support, but requests privacy during Ian's recovery and rehabilitation.
