Ice Bike Riding DEC 2011 - Minnesota

By petemaster5000 on December 21, 2011 5:05 PM

Here's a fun short video I made over the past couple days.  We're having a great time during the Christmas season here in Minnesota.  Spend a couple days out at Zman's lake house where the open water in the middle of the lake didn't stop us from ripping some turns on the parts of the lake that were frozen enough!!!!

The Bikes:  Honda 150R's all raced out for superior ice handling.

Riders:  Zman, Petey, Tman, Justin

Millionaire motocross star James 'Bubba' Stewart gets community service

By petemaster5000 on November 09, 2011 7:33 PM

Millionaire motocross star James "Bubba" Stewart, accused in March of trying to use flea market-bought flashing lights to pull over a vehicle containing actual law officers, pleaded no contest this morning to a misdemeanor related to the case.

The plea agreement calls for Stewart to perform 75 hours of community service but adjudication of guilt was withheld because he is a first-time offender.

He will be fined $500 and will be on probation for a year.

Stewart, initially charged with impersonating a law enforcment officer — a felony —pleaded no contest to a first-degree misdemeanor charge of using flashing or rotating lights on a motor vehicle.

He declined comment after a brief hearing at the Osceola County Courthouse.

The Central Florida motocross champion, whose website calls him "the Tiger Woods of supercross," was arrested March 28 on the impersonation charge, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Stewart, 25, was driving a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup northbound on State Road 417 at 4:50 p.m. when he tried to stop another vehicle using red and blue police-type lights, troopers said.

Unfortunately for Stewart, the vehicle contained two off-duty highway-patrol troopers, who quickly suspected that the pickup was not an undercover police truck.

As Stewart pulled alongside the vehicle, its driver identified himself as a legitimate law officer. That's when investigators said the flashing lights stopped and Stewart sped off.

The off-duty troopers called 911, and an Orange County deputy sheriff and an Orlando police officer stopped Stewart at Orlando International Airport. Troopers arrived later and arrested Stewart.

In a 911 call, Trooper Kevin O'Quinn, driving the vehicle Stewart was accused of trying to pull over, said he had no doubt the motocross star's souped-up truck was not a law enforcment vehicle.

"I can guarantee you this is not a cop," Quinn told a dispatcher during his call reporting the incident.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.

SX: James Stewart Signs With Joe Gibbs Racing

James Stewart will compete for the JGRMX squad after inking a new multi-year deal with the Yamaha-backed outfit.

Media Release  |  Posted October 25, 2011   Huntersville, NC

James “Bubba” Stewart has signed a multi-year contract to race with the motocross division of Joe Gibbs Racing, JGRMX. Additionally, JGRMX has extended its relationship with Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. racing exclusively Yamaha motorcycles through 2014.

Stewart, who began racing at the age of four, is one of the most decorated riders in motocross history.. He won the first of a record breaking 11 amateur national championships by age six. Turning professional in 2002 he would win the Lites AMA Motocross Championship in his rookie year. After claiming another Lites AMA Motocross title and two Lites AMA Supercross Championships he moved up to the premier class for the 2005 season. Stewart has since won two AMA Supercross titles and an AMA Motocross Championship (winning every moto in the process), becoming the first African American to win a major motorsports championship. He will debut with the Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX Team at the opening round of the 2012 AMA Supercross Championship on Jan. 7, 2012 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, Calif.

“I am excited about joining the Gibbs racing family,” said Stewart. “My goal in Supercross is to pass Jeremy McGrath’s record of 72 Supercross wins. I am more than half way there and look forward to realizing that dream during my time with JGR. I have also had an interest in car racing and we are going to explore my potential in that sport through the NASCAR side of the operation.”

“When we started the Supercross team in 2008 we had a building phase and a championship phase. We spent the past four years learning the sport and the equipment and now we are ready to compete at the highest level with an accomplished and talented athlete like James Stewart along with our founding partners Toyota and Yamaha,” said JGRMX President Coy Gibbs. “James will also have the opportunity to explore his interest in racing some of the four-wheel vehicles we have around here as well.”

“We are proud of what Coy and the motocross team has accomplished and landing a talent like James is certainly a huge step up for our program,” stated Joe Gibbs. “We are looking forward to being a serious championship contender in 2012.”

Monster Energy Cup - Congrats Ryan Villopoto for Winning the Million

By petemaster5000 on October 19, 2011 4:06 PM

Congrats to Ryan Villopoto for winning the first ever, Monster Million, at the Las Vegas Monster Energy Cup.

This was the first ever race of it's kind.  The track, designed by Ricky Carmichael, and Jeremy McGrath was new and different.  It had the combination of high speed outdoor motocross sections, as well as tricky, tight rhythm sections like the indoor supercross tracks.

I had a great time watching my Minnesota boy, Ryan Dungey on his first ever race on the KTM.  He finished 1st looking really strong in his heat race, but couldn't quite keep up with the insane fast, smooth, and perfect ride by Villopoto.  RV is absolutely amazing to watch.  He is smoooth as butta, and fast as f***.

What a fun day of racing.  Now we just have 11 weeks until the Supercross season starts at Anaheim in January.

Rest well racers but stay in shape, and have a good break.  See you back at the gate real soon!

Motocross of Nations 2011: Saturday's MX action and qualifying

By petemaster5000 on September 17, 2011 6:18 PM

Saturday's Qualifying at the 2011 MX of Nations in France. The Motocross of Nations at St. Jean d'Angely, France is the most prestigious MX race of the year. In today's Qualifying Races it was the Americans: Ryan Dungey (MX1 class), Blake Bagget (MX2 class), and Ryan Villopoto (Open class) all led every lap of their respective motos. USA dominated in an almost unbelievable fashion, thus scoring 2 points for the day.

The Italian team surprised everyone with a second best overall for the day and scoring 4 points. Italy's Antonio Cairoli gave Ryan Dungey everything he could handle in the MX1 qualifier, finishing 2nd on the day behind Team USA's captain. The host country's Team France, finished third overall for the day, with Chrisophe Pourcel finishing 3rd in MX1, Marvin Musquin 2nd in MX2 and Gautier Paulin 3rd in the Open class. They received 6 points on the day. France is one of the favorites to end USA's reign as MXoN Champions.

MXON: Team USA In To Win

MXON: Team USA In To Win

Team USA stands a strong chance of winning a seventh consecutive Motocross of Nations title with Ryan Villopoto, Ryan Dungey, and Blake Baggett at the controls.

Team USA has arrived in Europe and is heading towards the St Jean d’Angely circuit to prepare for the biggest race of their season, the Monster Energy Motocross of Nations. The three riders Ryan Dungey, Ryan Villopoto and Blake Baggett with managed Roger DeCoster have come for one thing and only one thing, and that is to win the event outright

Team USA will be competing for its seventh consecutive victory at the "Olympics of Motocross", which has been running, without interruption, since 1947. Team USA is the all-time leader in victories with 21 since 1981 and are the heavy favorites this year.

Villopoto and Dungey have been on three MXoN winning teams but never as teammates. The two went to war in these years Lucas Oil AMA Motocross Championship and it’s the first time since Jeff Emig and Jeremy McGrath battled in the 1996 AMA 250cc Championship that two American riders who were locked in a close class championship battle were chosen to represent Team USA.

"As demonstrated by their performances this summer, these three riders are among the best that the United States has to offer," AMA spokesman Kevin Crowther said. "We're confident they will do their country proud at this prestigious event."

The team event combines the individual finishes of all three riders with each rider competing in two motos. The worst score of the six finishes is thrown out. Even though each country is competing for the Chamberlain Trophy, Villopoto said the event feels like USA vs. The World.

"Once we go over there we have a target on our back as a team," he said. "We've won it so many times and when we go overseas it's their time to show what they have. There's more pressure and it feels like it's us three against everyone else."

Blake Baggett is the lone rookie on the team. With five wins in nine rounds in 2011, the 250 class rider finished third in the AMA MX points behind Great Britain's, Dean Wilson and South Africa's Tyla Rattray. Baggett said he has no idea what to expect.

"Ryan (Dungey) talked to me about it," he said. "No worries, just ride like you do all the time. Do the best you can and it will be ours. “He also said he can't stress the 'all or nothing' strategy of winning this event. "Never give up. Trey Canard crashed in both of his motos last year. He could have given up and because he didn't give we won it in 2010."

Originally scheduled for September 24-25, the event was moved up one week so it didn't coincide with the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The September 17-18 weekend falls just one week after the conclusion of the AMA Motocross Championship at Pala Raceway, giving Team USA a logistical obstacle to overcome in preparation. "It's going to be a quick turnaround," Dungey said. "I think we're going to have to ship bikes before the season is over with. It's quick but nothing we can't handle."

The last time the event was held in Saint Jean D'Angely, France, in 2000, Team USA won with Ricky Carmichael, Travis Pastrana, and Ryan Hughes representing.

“I'm really happy to race at the Monster Energy Cup,” exclaimed Musquin. “It should be a fun race on my 350cc KTM. I’ve been told the track should be a mix between motocross and Supercross, so I am looking forward to seeing the final layout. My goal is to have fun and be out in front with the other big Supercross riders and get some valuable experience before next year.”

Musquin is coming off his best finishes stateside, earning third place at the final two stops on the AMA Motocross Championship and will represent the growing list of international riders competing in the Monster Energy Cup.

The unique hybrid track will consist of Supercross/motocross terrain and will have a tremendous motocross-style influence, making it unlike any other stadium race in the world. This track will be the perfect blend of Supercross and motocross combined and created into the ultimate battleground. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse, awarding the winner a $100,000 check, and for the “first time ever,” $1 Million will be paid to a rider that wins all three main events.

Barcia On The Box Again

The final Motocross National of the season held at Southern California’s Pala Raceway in Pala, CA, saw the Honda Red Riders put in some of their best performances of the season on their Honda CRF250R and CRF450R race machines. American Honda Racing’s Ashley Fiolek wrapped up her third WMX title, while her teammate Justin Barcia finished third in the 450 class.

After winning back-to-back Women’s titles in 2008 and 2009, and finishing runner-up in the WMX series in 2010, Fiolek headed into the 2011 Motocross season determined to reclaim the crown. From the get-go, Fiolek demonstrated incredible speed on her CRF250R, winning five motos in the eight-round series and clinching three overall victories en route to the championship crown. Tarah Gieger raced her Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/Honda–prepared CRF250R to third overall in the series while fellow Honda riders Kasie Creson and Lindsey Palmer finished the season in seventh and 10th, respectively.

“I am so happy to win back the Women’s title,” said Fiolek. “It was tough giving it up last year, so I was determined to do everything I needed to do to win it back this season. All the women racers rode exceptionally well, and we had some great battles. I knew consistency was going to be the key to winning the championship back, and that’s what I was all season, consistently on the podium each week. I’m really happy to put Honda on top again for another year.”

Barcia completed his fill-in ride with the factory Honda team at Pala by putting in two impressive rides at the Motocross grand finale. Barcia was a strong contender for the moto one win, running up front for the majority of the race before finishing in third. In the second moto, Barcia got a great start and took over the lead from Chad Reed on lap seven. Maintaining incredible speed out front, he led the next eight laps before surrendering a spot with two laps to go. Barcia’s stellar 3-2 result earned him third overall for the round.

“I’m really happy with my results this weekend,” said Barcia. “I have learned so much about myself as a racer and about riding, which I know has made me a much smarter rider. It’s been awesome working with the factory Honda team, and I can’t thank GEICO Honda enough for allowing me to take advantage of this amazing opportunity.”

TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed put in solid performances aboard his American Honda Racing–prepared CRF450R, finishing moto one in 12th and nabbing fourth in the second moto for seventh overall. Reed led the championship for half the season and finished the championship in third -- an impressive first season for the TwoTwo Motorsports team.

In the 250 class, GEICO Honda rookie Justin Bogle finished his fourth race as a professional on a high note. After finishing moto one in 10th place, Bogle got a great start in moto two, leading the opening 10 laps of the race before finishing in second place and earning a season-best fifth overall. GEICO Honda teammate Eli Tomac went 7-11 for ninth overall, while Honda rider Alex Martin rounded out 10th place. Tomac finished fourth overall in the championship, while Martin nabbed eighth place. Fellow Honda racer Darryn Durham finished the season in 10th.
