AMA Supercross 2013 Schedule OUT RIGHT HERE!!
By cpFTR9 on June 06, 2012 3:53 PM
Feld Motor Sports has announced the 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, schedule. Mostly unchanged from 2012, the championship will once again feature a 17-race season in 10 different states and Canada.
After a four-year hiatus, the series will again visit the Metrodome in Minneapolis, home state to 2010 series champion, Ryan Dungey. The New Orleans round has been dropped from the schedule.
"After reaching milestones in 2012, with sellouts at the two races at Angel Stadium and the Georgia Dome, Monster Energy Supercross also posted record numbers at the Edward Jones Dome," said Charlie Mancuso, President of Feld Motor Sports.
The Metrodome addition means New Orleans fans will once again be without a supercross. After a one-year break, the New Orleans SuperDome got back on the schedule in 2012 but once again disappears in 2013.
For the 22nd time in four decades of competition, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Calif., will serve as the site of the opening race of the 2013 season. Anaheim will be host for two of the 17 races, on Jan. 5 and Feb. 2, signifying the first and fifth stops, respectively.
Ryan Villopoto, who won the 2012 title four races early, is expected to make his return to racing on Jan. 5, 2013. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider suffered a knee injury in Seattle that took him out of the remainder of the supercross season and the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, where he is also the defending champion.
In 2013, Villopoto will attempt to become the fourth rider in supercross history to win three consecutive titles. Dungey, who gave KTM its first Supercross Class main event win in 2012 will also be back in 2013.
The series also hopes to see the return of its other injured riders, former champions James Stewart and Chad Reed, and former SX Lites champions Trey Canard and Kevin Windham. Two-time Lites class champion, Justin Barcia, is expected to make his debut in the premier Supercross Class division.

Fresh off the heels of the greatest season ever, the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross schedule is the foundation for next season’s highly touted racing championship. Once again the championship will begin at supercross’ home plate, Angel Stadium, on January 7 and conclude at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas on May 5, where the champion will be crowned.
Cross Club members will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase tickets on May 9-10. Following the Cross Club opportunity an Online-only offer will be available on May 11-12. Monster Energy Supercross’ last stop in New Orleans was in 2009 when Team San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart won the main event en route to his second Supercross class championship.
“The 2012 Monster Energy Supercross schedule is the map to the coveted championship trophy,” said Todd Jendro, senior director of two-wheel operations, Feld Motor Sports. “While 2011 is the greatest season ever, it is a primer for 2012. The returning veterans and the youthful challengers are the perfect blend for a parity-driven championship.”
“The 2011 season once again proved that the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, is a real thriller,” said FIM President Vito Ippolito. “Who would have thought that heading into Las Vegas, the championship would be so close? Supercross remains the excellent showcase for FIM motor sports that it always was and keeps the fans on their toes throughout the entire Championship. It is still the FIM’s wish to take Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship global. Still, we are pleased to see that there are once again 17 events on the 2012 calendar and we can start to count down the days separating us from the first race in Anaheim on January 7, 2012."
"As 2011 proved, the Monster Energy Supercross championship has always been about combining the best racers on the planet and one of the most accessible and fan-friendly stadium-based events you'll see anywhere" said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. "For 2012, we're proud to work with our promotional partner, Feld Motor Sports, to deliver the exciting racing, compelling stories and intense thrills of supercross to fans and new audiences worldwide."
