I just got up here and i'm pleasently surprised by all the bikes. i've seen more sports bikes in one day than i could see in a week back in denver. I havent been riding very long unless you count the time i've wanted a bike before i got one but ever since i got my zx10 i've loved it. I've carved some tight switchbacks around lookout mountain and flew through some steep curves on my way to pine and the bike handles great for being so heavy. i opted for the 1000 instead of a 6 because i knew id get bored with it soon plus i found my zx10 for only 1200 bucks. despite being a carbureted dinosaur from 1989, in the end, its still a 1000 cc ninja and it hauls. I need to replace my chain and sprocets soon so im considering adding two teeth to the rear and perhaps subtracting one from the front so i can more easily bring that front tire up. i recently made the 1000 mile trip from denver to grand forks over the course of two days on my baby and i never realized how comfortable that bike actually was until i replaced the forks and dropped a hundred pounds of dead weight sitting on the back of it .

at any rate i'd be interested to meet some other riders out here and find some good spots since the rockies are now impossibly far away

Welcome to the site Komodomoe!!   I just looked at your zx-10 pics... clean bike, for being old, it's a nice ride!!!!   Let me know what sprockets/chain kit you want, and I'll get you prices.  The FTR online store is just about to open, and we can get best prices on just about anything you want!

I'm getting Suprsprox myself, because the aluminum (Vortex) sprockets shred super fast from all the wheelies...lol....  and because their best sprocket, THE STEALTH SPROCKET...  well it's got a lifetime warranty, and it's stealth.  and we like stealth stuff.

I usually gear my bikes, one down in front, and 2 or 3 up in the back.

idk what brand i want heres my stock set up
drive sprocket- 17 teeth
rear sprocket- 45 teeth
chain- 530 pitch, 110 links
and heres my future setup
torque upgraded->
drive-17t or 16t (not sure yet)
rear-47t

chain- 530 pitch, 110 links

so you want to stick with the same 530 chain and same links?  You could just change the front sprocket to one tooth less and keep the chain.  You'll notice a little difference...  If you add teeth to the rear you'll need a new chain for sure.

Most people go with a 520 kit, and change both sprockets at the same time.  1 down, 3 up is a good torque improvement and wont lose too much from the top end....

Here's the link to the RK chain / Kawasaki kits, although your bike is pretty old, and not listed, it won't be that hard to get the right ones, but this will give you an idea.  Just let me know what you want and I'll get you a better price than retail.

If weight isn't a big deal to you, get steel. They wont wear out fast like aluminum.  And the Gold chains are sweet.

Example Kit from RK:

im going with steel without a doubt, my 500 lb. zx1000 isnt going to suffer any having a pound extra. at any rate, how can i be sure a sprocket will fit my bike if its not fitted specifically for the zx1000b?

I added your stock sprocket from Sunstar sprockets as well as you 1 down 2 up sprockets to the online store

ok, two last questions before i order-

1) what benefit would i get from a 520 conversion?

2) how many extra links would i need if i go down 1 tooth in front and up 2 in back?

The only advantage to a 520 kit I know of it's less weight.  For your old bike that is heavy anyway, and not much you can do about it, I wouldn't worry about it!  I would definitely get steel sprockets however... especially if you're gonna be doing wheelies.

I'd go 1 down and 2 up.  probably need 2 extra links. I will check for you on the best kit for your bike and get back to you by end of day today.

thanks

i'm probably going with the 530 sunstar steel sprockets-

16t in front, 47t in back

im just not sure about the chain length, once again, stock is 110 links

Hey Komo-

Do me a favor, and private message me your phone number and best time to call you tomorrow...  Your bike is pretty old/limited information/ and we want to make sure to get you sprockets that fit your bike. (chain wont be a problem)   Thanks!   -pete
